Your privacy
Privacy policies are usually a nightmare to read. Pages of legal waffle that cover everyone’s back and tell you nothing useful. This one is different. We’ve written it in plain English so you can actually see what happens to your information when you deal with us.
Last Update: 13th August 2026
The short version
We only collect what we need to send you bees, honey, and courses, to email you when you’ve asked us to, and to keep the website running. We don’t sell your data to anyone, and we never will.
Who we are
Black Mountain Honey Limited (that’s us, Laurence and the team) runs this website, and we’re the people responsible for your information when you buy from us, sign up to our emails, join our community, or browse the site. We’re a registered company (company number 12398501), and our postal address is The Office, Ffordd Pentre Bach, Nercwys, Mold, CH7 4EG.
If you’ve got a question about your data, or you want us to do something with it, email us at info@blackmountainhoney.co.uk and we’ll help you every step of the way.
What we collect and why
We collect different information depending on how you use the site. Here’s the full picture.
When you buy physical products
We sell physical products, like nucs and honey, through our shop, which runs on WooCommerce. When you place an order, we collect:
- your name
- your billing and delivery address
- your email address and phone number
- details of what you’ve ordered
We need this to take payment, send your order, and keep you updated. We also keep a record of your orders so we can deal with any questions, refunds, or returns later on.
When you buy a course or join athe community
Our courses and community run on a separate platform called Circle. This covers The 14-Day Beekeeper (14DBK) and HiveQ.
When you buy a course or join HiveQ, Circle sets up your account and stores your name, email address, login details, and your activity inside the course or community, like the lessons you’ve completed and the posts you make. We use this to give you access, keep your account working, and support you while you learn.
When you sign up for our emails
We send our emails through a platform called Kit. When you subscribe, we store your name and email address, along with basic information about which emails you open and click. This helps us send you useful things and stop sending you things you’re not interested in.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. No hard feelings.
When you browse the site
We use a tool called Microsoft Clarity to understand how people use the site, so we can make it better. It shows us things like which pages are popular and where people get stuck. It can record anonymised information such as mouse movements, clicks, and scrolling. It doesn’t tell us who you are, and we don’t use it to identify you.
We also use cookies and similar technology to keep the site working and remember your preferences. There’s more on that below.
Payments
We don’t see or store your full card details. When you pay, you’re handed over to Revolut our payment provider, who processes the transaction securely and confirms to us that it’s gone through.
Who we share your information with
We keep things simple, and we don’t cut corners with your data. We only share it with the companies that help us run the business, and only so they can do their job. These are:
- WooCommerce and our website host, which power the online shop
- Circle, which runs our courses and community
- Kit, which sends our emails
- Microsoft Clarity, which gives us website analytics
- Stripe our payment provider, which handles payments
- delivery couriers, who need your address to get your order to you
We may also share information if the law requires it, for example with HMRC for tax, or if we ever sell the business. Beyond that, your data stays with us. We don’t sell it or hand it to advertisers.
How long we keep your information
We don’t hang on to your data forever. As a rule:
- we keep order and payment records for six years, because the law requires it for tax
- we keep your email details until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them
- we keep your course and community account for as long as you’re a member, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back
If you’d like us to delete your information sooner, just ask.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They’re what let a site remember things between pages and visits. We keep our use of them simple, and we don’t use them to build advertising profiles or follow you around the internet.
We use two kinds:
- Essential cookies. These make the site work. They remember what’s in your basket, keep you logged in, and handle secure checkout. Without them, parts of the site simply won’t function.
- Analytics cookies. These come from Microsoft Clarity and help us see how people use the site, so we can fix what’s confusing and improve what works. The information is anonymised and doesn’t identify you.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Just bear in mind that if you turn off the essential ones, the site may not work properly.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that’s wrong
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to stop using it for certain things, like marketing
- ask for your information in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we relied on it
To use any of these, email us at info@blackmountainhoney.co.uk. We’ll respond within one month.
Keeping your data safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we only work with platforms that do the same. No system is ever completely secure, but we treat your data with the care we’d want for our own.
Children
Our site and products are meant for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us their details, get in touch and we’ll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy from time to time as the business changes. When we make a significant change, we’ll update the date below, and we’ll let you know if it affects you.
Get in touch
If you’ve got any questions about your privacy, or you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your data, email us at info@blackmountainhoney.co.uk and we’ll do our best to put it right.
If you’re still not satisfied, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
