Full Description

VSH Buckfast Mated Queen

When ordering VSH Buckfast Mated Queens you will receive the following:

  • A marked, open mated, VSH Buckfast Mated Queen in a slow release queen introduction cage. Queens are not clipped and we do not offer this service. If you order more than one queen, they will arrive in separate cages (along with attendant bees).
  • A5 introduction postcard detailing successful methods for introduction and QR codes for support videos on our YouTube channel.
  • Orders will arrive in a ventilated cardboard container. Your consignment will require a signature on arrival.
  • On placement of order you will receive an email confirmation. On the day of dispatch, you will receive a tracking code which can be tracked at Royal MaiL

Queens should be introduced to the beehives as soon as they are delivered. They can be introduced into a colony on the same day as dispatching the queen but fondant tabs should only be opened once the colony is hopelessly queenless.

Here is a link to our YouTube channel on how to successfully introduce queens. We cannot be held liable for any failed queen introductions. Bees are wild creatures and successful introduction is never guaranteed.

Mated queen bees are natural creatures and although we can advise you on how to achieve the best introduction success, we cannot be held liable for any failed queen introductions.

Untreated honey bees in tropical environments have been observed to develop certain levels of resistance to varroa. The strong selective pressure (no treatment by beekeepers, therefore a lot of Varroa) combined with a favorable climate for bees, allows a certain percentage of colonies to survive long enough to guarantee the creation of offspring (swarms, new colonies). These colonies have inherited one or more traits that help them keep the Varroa infestation under control. Also in the institutes, colonies have been selected that have favorable traits and can better control the number of Varroa in the hive. The best results so far are achieved by selecting honey bees with Varroa Sensitive Hygiene (VSH) behavior: these bees can detect Varroa in the brood and remove the brood with Varroa so that Varroa cannot reproduce and multiply.

    Elsa The Queen

    Hello Laurence

I recently purchased a queen from you, as I had a very hot hive I inherited as a swarm which was a challenge as I was in my first year of beekeeping!

Our new queen arrived (named 'Elsa' by my 4 yr old grandaughter), and I did my best to follow the instructions, she eventually ran free on the frames on Sunday and to my delight she is still alive and I now have eggs!

This is just a quick email to say thank you

    Kind regards

    Sally
